Churchill Families,
Happy Friday! I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Today we had an amazing Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (AAPI) Heritage Month assembly put on by our Asian, Pacific Islander, Student Union (APISU). We had dancing from Hālau Hula O Nā Pua O Hawai'i Nei, a Kendo demonstration from the University of Oregon Kendo club, and a great presentation from our very own IHS teacher, Kyle Yamada. Students were engaged, respectful, and loved being a part of this celebration of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage. Thank you so much to our APISU advisory and students for putting together a beautiful assembly!
Next week marks the start of the last 4 weeks of school. A lot will be happening in school and around school these next few weeks - National Honor Society inductions, Spring Festival, Honor Roll/Awards assembly, Senior Assembly and Parade, and finally graduation. I encourage you to check-in with your students about their grades, tests, and final projects. These next four weeks will fly by!
Go, Lancers!

Mean Girls Performances Continue
CHS's spring musical, Mean Girls has another performance TONIGHT, along with a final performance on Saturday, May 18. All performances are at 7:00 PM. New to her school, Cady Heron gets wrapped up in a plan to take down the clique of the most popular girls in school, the Plastics. Based on the 2004 movie, this cautionary tale of friendship, treachery, and the pursuit of popularity is hilarious and poignant. Tickets are $7 for students and $15 for adults. You can purchase tickets from any CHS Thespian, our poster QR Code, or at the door. You simply have to be there. It's going to be SO FETCH. This musical is rated PG-13.
Get your FREE LTD student transit pass before the end of the school year!
All students in 4J schools can get a student pass to ride Lane Transit District (LTD) buses for free. Student transit passes can be used to travel anywhere within the LTD service area. Student passes can be used at any time—after school, on weekends, and during school breaks, as well as to get to and from school each day.
To get a free LTD student transit pass, available as a tap card or Umo smartphone app, students can request their pass at the front office for elementary students. Passes are valid from September 1 of the current school year to September 30 of the following year and can be renewed by the school each year for ongoing free service.

Home Safety Opportunity: Restricting Lethal Means
Pick up a FREE lockbox for your handgun, rifle, and/or medication at the Churchill front office, or talk to your student's counselor.
Suicide is a leading cause of death among young people in Oregon, and has recently increased in Lane County. The district is working with public health and other partners to provide families with information and resources for suicide prevention.
There are steps you can take to help keep your family members safe if they experience an emotional crisis or think about suicide. One important measure is to reduce easy access to things that could be dangerous to them: “lethal means.” Lethal means include firearms, prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, sharp objects, and belts, cords, and cables.
Reducing access to lethal means saves lives. Most people who live through a suicide attempt do not later die by suicide. Suicide attempts using firearms are very likely to be fatal.
Firearms, medications, and other lethal means can be restricted by removing them or locking them in secure storage. It is essential that youth cannot know the combination or be able to get the key. Lockboxes are being offered to 4J families at no charge.

Ways to Support Churchill Students
Become a Churchill Community Responder
A Churchill Community Responder is a volunteer that responds to “alerts” sent by the 15th Night Coordinator for needs specific to CHS students that internal school resources have not met. Types of alerts would be for items such as clothing, shoes, small household items, food or bedding, small gift cards, etc.
A Churchill Community Responder would receive a text message indicating a need. If the Responder can provide the need, they respond to the text message and work with the CHS Coordinator to secure and deliver the item. If you are unable to help with that alert you simply ignore the alert.
