Dear Churchill Families,
It has been an amazing start to the school year here at Churchill! Things have run smoothly, and our students have been doing a fantastic job adjusting to their routines.
Next week is Homecoming, and we are encouraging all of our students to buy into the school spirit and participate in our dress-up days! Over the last decade, school spirit seems to have faded nationwide compared to when many of us were in high school, but high school truly is what you make it. Being involved is the best way to create a positive experience.
I strongly encourage all of our students, especially our freshmen, to get involved in a club, sport, or activity. Churchill offers a wide variety of athletics, arts programs, and clubs. When students plug into these groups, they feel a stronger sense of belonging, which makes their high school years far more rewarding.
I want to commend our students for doing a fantastic job adhering to our cell phone policy and adapting to our locked perimeter doors. These measures make our school significantly safer, and I deeply appreciate our students' cooperation and understanding.
Throughout the year, I will be reminding families about the vital role attendance plays in academic success. Our theme this year is "Show Up to Succeed," and the data speaks for itself:
-
95%+ Attendance: 99% of students are on track to graduate.
-
80%–94% Attendance: Over 90% of students are on track to graduate.
-
Below 80% Attendance: Only 52% of students are on track to graduate.
Showing up regularly makes a massive difference in your student's future. Thank you for partnering with us and emphasizing the importance of attendance at home.
Thank you for your continued support, and let's have a great Homecoming week!
Go Lancers!

Students: Continue to check your schedule regularly in StudentVue (or ParentVue for guardians).
Counselors are working hard on your schedule correction requests. Schedules may continue to change through the end of this week.
If your schedule needs to be corrected, please check that your request falls under one of the following reasons:
- You don't have the classes you need to graduate.
- You have an open period and need a full schedule.
- You have a duplicate or a missing class.
If your request meets these criteria, you can submit a request using the form below. Students must be logged into their 4J Google account to access the form.
Please submit the form only once. Counselors will do their best to make the appropriate changes, but all corrections are limited by the master schedule. We will respond to your requests via your 4J school email.
While your request is being processed, please continue to attend the classes you currently have in your schedule. It is your responsibility to check StudentVUE and your 4J email for updates. This form will close on Friday, September 18, at 4:00 p.m.

The Graduation Party is community-sponsored. Liability is the responsibility of the organizers.
Calling all Class of 2027 parents and guardians! While graduation may feel far away, planning is already underway to give our seniors a fun, memorable, and safe celebration on graduation night, expected for June 8, 2027.
The Senior Grad Party is a cherished tradition, but it is not a school-sponsored event—it relies entirely on the energy, fundraising, and creativity of senior parents to make it happen. We currently have enthusiastic volunteers ready to help, but we are looking for a Party Chair (or Co-Chairs) to take the lead and steer the planning committee.
Stepping up to lead ensures our graduates get the send-off they deserve! If you are interested in heading up the committee or learning more about what the role entails, please contact Jodie Hoberg at jnhoberg@gmail.com. Let’s work together to make the Class of 2027's celebration unforgettable!

Eugene School District 4J is committed to open communication and keeping families informed. If you are not receiving emails and text messages from the district or your student’s school, please update your contact information with your student’s school.

Did you know students who bring lunch from home can round out their meal at school for free? Just select at least three items from the offering bar or hot line—including at least one fruit or vegetable—to build a balanced lunch.

With school approaching, it's a perfect time for parents to have a plan for student nutrition for the year. 4J Nutrition Services is ready to help, from sharing menus and supporting special dietary needs, to providing the pathway to setting up meal accounts.
This year will see some changes to school meals in 4J, which are similar to how all the neighboring school districts operate: each student will continue to receive one breakfast and one lunch each school day at no cost. Additional items, such as seconds, extra milks, or single milks for home lunch will be charged to the student's meal account. Families will have multiple resources available to help them understand the process, set up accounts, and manage payments with confidence. Budget constraints leave the district unable to continue a practice of allowing unlimited free additional meals. Student health and well-being is important for their success in school, and district staff will work with families to make sure every option and resource is explored for all health, nutrition and overall well-being concerns. Visit the Nutrition Services web page for more information and help.

As a new school year begins, consider talking with your teen about different ways to get to school. Walking, biking, scooting, skating, busing and carpooling can all be great options - and giving teens opportunities to travel independently helps them build confidence and important life skills.
If your teen is trying a new way to get to school, help them test the route ahead of time. Pro tip: the best walking or biking route isn’t always the same route you’d drive!

Here’s to a great school year and helping teens build the skills to get where they’re going!

Dear Students and Families,
Community Defensive Driving Institute (CDDI) has expanded its driver education offerings to Springfield. We are excited to host a course this fall, October 10–December 19, at the Springfield Public Library. We invite you to sign up for the course! If you've previously had a student enrolled in the program, we'd also greatly appreciate your help in spreading the word to other families who may be interested. A few of our partner schools will be sharing the information in an upcoming newsletter but, we wanted to reach out to you all first.
Our organization is dedicated to providing Oregon teens and adults with the knowledge and skills needed to become safe, confident drivers. As an ODOT-approved driving school, students ages 15–17 who successfully complete the course will be eligible to take their final drive test directly with the instructor and owner, Juan G. Cordova, as part of the program.
Because this is a state-approved course and each lesson builds on the previous one, students are expected to attend all scheduled classes to successfully complete the program.
Enrollment for the fall course is limited to 25 students, and classes tend to fill quickly. We encourage interested students to register by September 18th. A payment plan option is available upon request. See application for details.
For additional information and to register, please visit:
We hope you'll join us this fall or send this information to a family. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.
