Dear Churchill Families,
As we move further into the school year, I want to take a moment to share how proud and excited we are about the positive momentum here at Churchill. The year continues to go great, and we’re seeing so many wonderful things happening across our campus.
One area we’re especially proud of is how smooth our hallways have become during instructional time. Thanks to our updated tardy policy and the implementation of eHallPasses, hallway traffic has significantly decreased. This means more students are where they need to be—on time and in class—maximizing learning opportunities.
Just a reminder: students who are tardy twice in a single day or five times in a week will receive a lunch detention. We appreciate your support in reinforcing the importance of punctuality and responsibility at home.
We continue to be amazed by the respectful and kind behavior our Lancers are showing every day. It’s a reflection of the strong values we see in our students and families, and we couldn’t be more grateful.
As we head into October, our fall sports are really heating up! Our teams have been experiencing a lot of success, and we’d love to see you and your student in the stands, showing that Churchill pride and cheering on our athletes. Let’s keep the Lancer spirit alive both on and off the field!
With our new administration this year, we’ve made it a priority to be present, visible, and connected with our students. At the same time, we’re holding high expectations. We believe in supporting every student while also expecting them to be accountable for their actions, attendance, and academic effort. We expect all Lancers to be in school, in class, and striving to meet our high standards—because we know they’re capable of great things. We will continuously emphasize our school theme of the year, Be Present, Stay Present.
The feedback we’ve received so far this year has been overwhelmingly positive, and we truly appreciate your continued partnership in making this a fantastic year for our students.

Congratulations to Mr. Lance Eagen, who was recently honored as an outstanding educator by the College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation!
Mr. Eagen was nominated by a former student, now a current University of Oregon football player. As part of this recognition, he was awarded a $1,000 grant for his classroom and had a heartwarming reunion with his student.
What a fantastic and well-deserved honor! We are incredibly proud to have Mr. Eagen as part of our school community.

Honors Diploma
Seniors – It’s time to start thinking about Honors Diploma Recognition. To receive recognition, students must complete all three of the following:
- Earn an unweighted cumulative final GPA of 3.5 or better.
- Earn a minimum of 25 credit hours.
- Perform at least 120 hours of volunteer service during grades 9-12. 60 of these hours must be served in the community outside of Churchill.
This year, seniors need to submit their hour logs to Kari Ludington, School Counselor, by January 30, 2026. More information about the Honors Diploma can be found in the CHS Course Catalog, or see your Counselor with questions.
Community Service
When we talk about diploma options, we are frequently asked if community service is required for graduation. It depends on the type of diploma you are pursuing. We have different types of diploma options at Churchill:
International High School (IHS): IB Diploma and IHS Diploma.
IHS requires Creativity, Action, and Service hours (CAS Hours).
Churchill: Honors Diploma Recognition, Standard Diploma, Modified Diploma, Extended Diploma, Alternative Certificate.
The Churchill Honors Diploma Recognition requires community service. The other diplomas do not require community service.
How do you find community service?
Get involved. Consider joining a club at Churchill. Many have volunteer or service opportunities. Watch the announcements for volunteering needs at the school. Talk to your School Counselor or College & Career Coordinator, Mary Beth Hepp-Elam, about volunteer opportunities. Check organizations in the community. Many post volunteer opportunities on their websites.
Regardless of which diploma you are pursuing, community service is a fantastic way to engage with the community, show potential employers/colleges/scholarship committees that you’re involved, and give back.
