Family Bulletin, June 7, 2024

Posted Date: 6/07/24 (7:31 PM)

Churchill Families,

Goodbye, and good luck to our wonderful class of 2024!  We know you will head off into the "real world" and do amazing things; wether college in the Fall, jobs and starts of careers over summer, the military, or a gap year trying to figure out what you want to be when you grow up.  No mater what you do, I know you will make a positive and lasting impact on our world!

Today we celebrated our Seniors with one more assembly, honoring them with Lancer PRIDE awards, scholarships, and academic student-athletes awards.  Everyone also laughed and enjoyed friendly competition between staff and students, lip-synch battles, the special staff dance, and our tradition of Knighting the seniors as they graduation from Churchill.  Once a Lancer, always a Lancer!

Our seniors will be missed greatly, and the halls will be a little bit quieter next week.  But, as we head into our last week of school before summer, I also want to encourage our 9th - 11th graders, as well as the staff, to stay focused, turn in your assignments, study for your finals, and finish strong!  We are almost done, but there are still a few things left to do before we close out the 2023-2024 school year.

Enjoy your sunny weekend!

Go, Lancers!
Missy Cole, Principal

New this year, the Oregon Department of Education is requiring all students, grades 3-11 be given the opportunity to complete the SEED survey. For more information, the 4J Seed Survey page is linked here.  The survey takes about 15 minutes and will be offered during our 6/12 Advisory class.

As with state testing, the SEED survey can also be opted out of. For accurate record keeping, if you choose to decline in writing, please do so with this form, which is also available in the front office, or verbally, in person (to Jane, Jill or Giselle), by 6/10/24. If after 6/10, the survey will not be blocked from entry - so please be sure to tell your student not to take the SEED Survey when it is offered if that is your preference.

Churchill Athletic Registration is Open

Attention all student-athletes.....
If you plan on participating in Summer Athletic Workouts, you must register on FinalForms. Register on the athletic website:
We are very excited to announce that the Churchill Athletic Department has partnered with FinalForms, an online forms and data management service.
FinalForms allows you to complete and sign athletic participation forms for your students. The most exciting news is that FinalForms saves data from season-to-season and year-to-year, meaning that you will never need to enter the same information twice!
FinalFormsalso pre-populates information wherever possible, for each of your students, saving you time. You may review your data at any time to verify it is current. You will be required to sign your forms once per year and after any update.
Click on the Parent Registration Playbook to get started in FinalForms. If you require any support during the process, scroll to the page bottom and click “Get Help”.
We are asking the parents/guardians of all students planning to play sports to create accounts in FinalForms and register your student(s).
This includes students participating in summer pre-season workouts. Register for the sport(s) you anticipate participating in.

Please register at:

  • follow the prompts to create your account,
  • create your students and sign your forms.
Physicals: If your physical is current and on file with the Churchill Athletic Department, the athletic trainer will upload the physical
Thank you for your assistance in streamlining our paperwork process at Churchill High School.

Get your FREE LTD student transit pass before the end of the school year!

All students in 4J schools can get a student pass to ride Lane Transit District (LTD) buses for free. Student transit passes can be used to travel anywhere within the LTD service area. Student passes can be used at any time—after school, on weekends, and during school breaks, as well as to get to and from school each day.

To get a free LTD student transit pass, available as a tap card or Umo smartphone app, students can request their pass at the front office for elementary students. Passes are valid from September 1 of the current school year to September 30 of the following year and can be renewed by the school each year for ongoing free service.

Home Safety Opportunity: Restricting Lethal Means
Pick up a FREE lockbox for your handgun, rifle, and/or medication at the Churchill front office, or talk to your student's counselor.
Suicide is a leading cause of death among young people in Oregon, and has recently increased in Lane County. The district is working with public health and other partners to provide families with information and resources for suicide prevention.
There are steps you can take to help keep your family members safe if they experience an emotional crisis or think about suicide. One important measure is to reduce easy access to things that could be dangerous to them: “lethal means.” Lethal means include firearms, prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, sharp objects, and belts, cords, and cables.
Reducing access to lethal means saves lives. Most people who live through a suicide attempt do not later die by suicide. Suicide attempts using firearms are very likely to be fatal.

Firearms, medications, and other lethal means can be restricted by removing them or locking them in secure storage. It is essential that youth cannot know the combination or be able to get the key. Lockboxes are being offered to 4J families at no charge.

Ways to Support Churchill Students

Become a Churchill Community Responder

A Churchill Community Responder is a volunteer that responds to “alerts” sent by the 15th Night Coordinator for needs specific to CHS students that internal school resources have not met. Types of alerts would be for items such as clothing, shoes, small household items, food or bedding, small gift cards, etc.

A Churchill Community Responder would receive a text message indicating a need. If the Responder can provide the need, they respond to the text message and work with the CHS Coordinator to secure and deliver the item. If you are unable to help with that alert you simply ignore the alert.
